Ride The Sambal Waves

Located within the lush tropical jungles of Ponsonby, we’re bringing you a bit of Bali to Auckland. Serving authentic Indonesian roadside delicacies with a bit of a Balinese twist, this is the food we grew up with and know too well. We crave it when we’re away, we can’t have enough when we’re there. We eat Nasi Goreng by the poolside, grilled seafood by the beach, and Nasi Campur in the markets. And the Sambal? Yo, Indonesian Sambal is no joke. Free-flowing all day errday.

Good Vibes Warung

A “warung” is an Indonesian street-food stall - it’s like a coffee shop at every corner, but instead of serving bagels, we serve all sorts of dope Indonesian dishes - mostly spicy, always good. Warungs are usually pretty slap-dashed - rickety stools, slap of uneven paint, plywood tables, kerosene lamp. We’ve elevated the warung to a snug little corner of Auckland, cause in Ponsonby you gotta stay cute.

Let’s get Indo
with it

For us, Indonesian food is not a trend, it’s our way of life. We eat it every single day, our grandmothers tell us off for using the wrong spices when we cook, our kids choose rice over chips. For some, “Nasi” means rice, but for us “Nasi” means life. If we’re not eating with Nasi, we’re not eating yet. Indonesian food is Asia’s best kept secret - if you’re not familiar with it, let us feed you. Our mission is to make Indonesian food mainstream - cause the worst thing you can do is follow a trend.

Vegan friends,
come chill

Our plant-based friends need not ask the most unnecessary question in Indonesian cuisine: “can this be made vegan?” The answer is yes, and almost half of our menu is vegan-friendly. We don’t use any fake meats - we don’t have to when Mother Indonesia has given us tofu, tempe, peanuts, coconuts and all the lush vegetables you’d ever want. You just gotta know how to work the earth, the world doesn’t need more machines making fake things.

Dope humans,
good food

The humans behind Bali Nights are passionate, modern Indonesian kids. We grew up in all corners of Indonesia and bring with us the (sometimes chaotic, but always fun) hustle and bustle of our country. Our kitchen is smokey, steamy, and hot - we bring the fire, from the grill straight to your plates. We’re basically here to stoke you out. And if we don’t, your Sambal is on us.
